Inspired Solutions to your business problems

EPV for UNIX - provides you an Integrated Enterprise vision, System grouping by user defined criteria, Performance Analysis know-how, Resource exception analysis, Abnormal process behaviour, Capacity Planning.:

Access to available data
EPV for UNIX uses standard metrics normally available in UNIX environments and is designed to support various input sources. EPV provides its own collectors based on standard utilities from various operating systems such as AIX, Solaris and HP-UX. The architecture of the product is modular and flexible. EPV can be installed on most hardware and software platforms.

An integrated Enterprise vision
EPV for UNIX Configuration shows a detailed report of the hardware and software configuration for UNIX environments including disk space availability, last boot time and configuration changes.

Performance Analysis in a ... click
EPV for UNIX provides a complete vision of all Unix systems by function and location (or by any other user defined criteria) and allows a quick and simple detection of any critical issue related to CPU, Memory, I/O and Network utilization. Following a predefined path you can drill-down and analyse systems, resources and process information at the hourly or at the collection interval level.

EPV for UNIX Workload allows in just a few seconds to identify the major workloads, at the system level, and their distribution on the available hardware resources.

Resource exception analysis
EPV for UNIX provides alerts in the html which show possible resource bottlenecks for all the most important resources. In addition a detailed analysis of abnormal process behaviour is located in case they consume excessive CPU or memory.

Capacity Planning “on line”
EPV for UNIX provides a set of “views” based on an index which allows a comparison between the relative processing powers of the various systems within the Enterprise. This index is evaluated at the installation using a data base including all the certified benchmarks. These benchmarks are constantly reviewed and updated. Using this index you can very quickly:
•Compare different systems capacity;
•Verify the possibility to move workloads from one system to another one;
•evaluate server consolidation scenarios.

Using “de facto” Standard Technologies
All reports are produced in simple static HTML pages, published on a server of your choice and can be accessed by your favourite “browser”. All the tables provided in the reports can be exported individually or together in a MS-Excel spread sheet.

Intelligent Filtering Techniques
EPV uses intelligent filtering techniques to reduce the amount of data collected in its database whilst maintaining the significance of the information. The product provides filters that can be customised to suit the needs of the enterprise. These filters reduce large data tables to ensure that analysis is performed with maximum efficiency.

Architecture
EPV for Unix architecture is based on the following three layers:
• An interface to collect input data
• An engine to correlate and aggregate data
• An engine to produce HTML pages.

The interface to collect input data is designed to optimize performance and consumptions of the loading phase, avoiding duplication or loss of data. It uses simple exits that adapt the product to the environment characteristics; a set of ready exits for each data type to acquire is provided.

The engine to correlate and aggregate data builds a standard SAS or SQL relational Data Base, containing only those metrics used by the product and automatically aggregated at the monthly, daily and hourly level. You can customize the product by setting the appropriate parameters and values to keep in your EPV Performance Data Base the desired time periods.

The engine to produce the HTML pages can be customized to:
• produce the HTML pages of specific days
• reports daily trends for a desired period
• set the thresholds for the usage of different resources
• set the interested time shift
• report the top processes, disks, network interfaces
• and much more …

Requirements
EPV for UNIX is available in two modes: standard or Plus.

The requirements for EPV for UNIX are:
• Availability of a SAS System Base module at least on a PC.

EPV for UNIX Plus has no pre-requisites.
